ας (ἡ) [ῠ] bras, cordage fixé au bout de l’antenne pour la faire mouvoir, OD. 5, 260 ; LUC. D. mort. 4, 1 ; prov. ἀφεὶς τὴν ὑπέραν τὸν πόδα διώκει, HYPÉR. (HARP.) il néglige le cordage de l’antenne (d’où dépend la manœuvre) pour ne s’occuper que de l’écoute, càd. il néglige le principal pour ne s’occuper que de l’accessoire.

ἡ, (< ὑπέρ) an upper rope; mostly in pl. ὑπέραι, the braces attached to the ends of the sailyards (ἐπίκρια), by means of which the sails are shifted fore and aft, acc. to the direction of the wind, Od. 5.260, cf. Luc. DMort. 4.1; prov. of those who drop the substance to grasp a shadow, ἀφεὶς τὴν ὑ. τὸν πόδα διώκει he lets go the brace to catch at the sheet, Hyp. Fr. 181.

ἡ, das oberste Tau, mit dem die Segelstangen am Mastbaume befestigt und hin- u. hergedreht werden können, die Brassen, zu waagerechtem Lenken der Rahe, αἷς μετάγεται τὸ κέρας, Harp.; ἐν δ' ὑπέρας τε κάλους τε πόδας τ' ἐνέδησεν, Od. 5.260 ; sprichwörtlich τὴν ὑπέραν ἀφεὶς τὸν πόδα διώκεις, Hyperid. bei Harp. v. ἀφείς.
