ἀντ·αλλάσσω, att. -αλλάττω, échanger, d’où :
      1 donner en échange : τί τινι, EUR. Tr. 351, donner une chose en échange d’une autre ; au pass. ἀντηλλαγμένου τοῦ ἑκατέρων τρόπου, THC. 4, 14, les deux peuples échangeant leur manière de combattre ;
      2 abs. échanger, changer : τὴν ἀξίωσιν τῶν ὀνομάτων, THC. 3, 82, changer l’acception (plus ou moins honorable) des mots (par rapport aux choses qu’ils désignent) ;

Moy. donner ou recevoir en échange : τί τινος, EUR. Hel. 1088 ; DÉM. 68, 6 ; τι ἀντί τινος, DÉM. 203, 12, prendre une chose en échange d’une autre ; τινὸς ἀντίπαλόν τινα ἀντί τινος, DÉM. 203, 12, avoir qqn pour adversaire à la place d’un autre ; θάνατον ἀ. EUR. Ph. 1633, recevoir la mort comme châtiment.

Att. ἀνταλλάττω, exchange one thing with another, δάκρυα δ’ ἀνταλλάσσετε τοῖς τῆσδε μέλεσι E. Tr. 351; τὴν ἀξίωσιν τῶν ὀνομάτων ἐς τὰ ἔργα ἀ. they changed the signification of the names in relation to things, Th. 3.82; τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ χρυσίου Poll. 3.113. more freq. in Med., take in exchange, ἄνδρα A. Ch. 133; ἀνταλλάσσεσθαί τί τινος take one thing in exchange for another, E. Hel. 1088, etc. ; τι ἀντί τινος D. 16.5; ἀνταλλάσσεσθαι τῇ διανοίᾳ interchange in thought, Pl. Tht. 189c; θάνατον ἀνταλλάξεται shall receive death in exchange, i.e. as a punishment, E. Ph. 1633; — so in Pass., ἀντηλλαγμένου τοῦ ἑκατέρων τρόπου having made an interchange of each other΄s custom, i.e. having each adopted the way of the other, Th. 4.14.
