Or. 323); the spellings ἀποτεινύτω (Crete, v BC), ἀποτειννυέτω (Avrom., i BC) (v. ἀποτίνυμι), and the form of the root (τι-; τει-; ποι- (v. τίνω), never τι-, which belongs only to τίω) show that the true spellings are τεινυ-, later τειννυ-, still later τιννυ- with ι long by nature; the early forms ἀποτινυ[μεν (v. ἀποτίνυμι), [τ]ινυμε[νο] GDI 5125 A 3 (Crete) remain unexplained; τίν[υ]σθαι is uncertain in IG 12(9).1273 (p. viii) (Eretria, vi BC); perh. τινυ- existed as well as τεινυ-.]
