[ῡ], ῆνος, ὁ, der harte Kern des Steinobstes, Her. 2.92, 4.23 u. Folgde ; Pol. 12.2.4 ; auch der Weinbeeren, Arist. Probl. 24.10 ; der Fichtenzapfen, Pinienkern, Inscr. 123. Auch vom Salz, Weihrauch u. ähnlich, ein Korn ; der harte Knochen der Fische, im Ggstz der Knorpeln ; – der runde Knopf an der Sonde, s. πυρηνοσμίλη. – Die Schreibart πύρρην scheint ganz verwerflich und nur aus Unkenntnis der Länge des υ entstanden.
