ίδος, ἡ, eigtl. fem. zu πάτριος, vaterländlisch ; bes. πατρὶς γαῖα, αἶα, ἄρουρα, vaterländische Erde, vaterländisches Gefilde, häufig bei Hom.; doch läßt auch er schon das subst. dabei weg und braucht πατρίς allein als ein solches, wie πάτρα, Vaterland, Heimat, Il. 5.213, Od. 9.34 u. sonst ; so Pind. Ol. 10.32 u. Tragg., z.B. Aesch. Pers. 403 ; Soph. Aj. 515 ; Eur. Hec. 905 ; in Prosa sehr gewöhnlich, Her. 3.140, Plat. Polit. 308a u. Redner. sprichwörtlich πατρὶς γάρ ἐστι πᾶσ' ἵν' ἂν πράττῃ τις εὖ, Ar. Plut. 1151, ubi bene, ibi patria. Bei Sp. auch = Vaterstadt.
