Étym. μοιχός.

= μοιχεύω 1; metaph, μοιχᾶν τὴν θάλατταν have dalliance with the sea, applied by Callicratidas to Conon, X. HG 1.6.15; — Pass., commit adultery, of a man, Ev. Matt. 5.32; of a woman, Ev. Marc. 10.12; metaph, to be unfaithful to God, LXX Je. 3.8, Ez. 23.37.

eine Ehefrau zum Beischlaf verführen und mit ihr die Ehe brechen, auch allgemein von jeder ungesetzlichen Verbindung mit einer Frau, auch ein Mädchen verführen, Sp.; Xen. Hell. 1.6.15 sagt sogar μοιχᾶντὴν θάλατταν, das Meer listig und widerrechtlich in seine Gewalt bringen, vgl. μοιχεύω. Auch = verfälschen, Sp.; – intr., Ehebruch treiben, ein Ehebrecher sein, auch im med., NT oft.
