εἴ·περ, conj. :
      1 si toutefois, s’il est vrai que (lat. si quidem) avec l’ind. IL. 24, 667, etc. ; XÉN. An. 1, 7, 9 ; 6, 1, 26, etc. ; ellipt. si toutefois (cela est vrai, nécessaire, etc.), si toutefois (cela a jamais été) : ἡμῖν δὲ καλῶς, εἴπερ ποτέ, ἔχει, etc. THC. 4, 20, l’occasion est favorable, si toutefois (elle le fut) jamais (pour une réconciliation) etc. ;
      2 quand même, quoique, avec l’ind., le sbj. ou l’opt. IL. 7, 117, OD. 1, 167 ; suivi d’une particule : εἴπερ καί, OD. 9, 35 ; εἴπερ τε, IL. 10, 225 ; εἴπερ γε, ESCHL. Ch. 198 ; SOPH. Aj. 746 ; qqf. avec un mot entre εἴπερ et la particule : εἴπερ ἔσται γε, ESCHL. Ag. 1249, etc.

even if, even though, Il. 7.117, Od. 1.167, etc. ; εἴ. καί 9.35; εἴ. τε Il. 10.225; εἴ. γε A. Ch. 198, Pl. Prt. 312a, etc. ; εἴ. γε δή Id. Tht. 182c; with words between, εἴ. γάρ τε χόλον γε. Il. 1.81; εἴπερ ἔσται γε A. Ag. 1249, cf. Pl. Plt. 275e; καλῶς, εἴπερ ποτέ, ἔχει Th. 4.20; εἴπερ ἄρα Jul. Or. 7.216b. in Att. and Trag. to imply that the supposition agrees with the fact, if as is the fact, since, Th. 6.14, etc. ; but with impf. it implies that it is contrary to the fact, εἴπερ ἦν πέλας if I had been (but I was not), S. El. 312, cf. 604; also εἴ. ἐκτελεῖς ἅπερ λέγεις if only you will keep your word, Id. Ichn. 48. with an ellipse, if you must, Ar. Nu. 227; ἀλλ’ εἴ. but if so, Pl. Prm. 150b, Arist. 1) wenn anders, wenn sonst, wenn ja, siquidem, Hom. u. Folgde ; εἴπερ – κε, Il. 2.123, 8.205, falls wirklich ; – εἴπερ γε, Plat. Prot. 312a u. oft, wenigstens wenn anders ; vgl. Her. 7.16 ; Xen. An. 1.7.9 ; – εἴπερ τις ἄλλος, wenn ja ein anderer, wie ein anderer, nachdrücklich, fast = wie keiner, Soph. O.R. 1118 ; ἐξέφυν πατρός, εἴπερ τινός, σθένοντος ἐν πλούτῳ Aj. 483 ; εἴπερ τινὶ καὶ ἄλλῳ καὶ ἐμοί Dem. 24.4, 51 ; so auch εἴπερ ποτέ, Eur. Andr. 553 Thuc. 4.20 ; εἴπερ ποτὲ καὶ νῦν, Ar. Eq. 594.

__(a) pres.: before indic, pres., Mat.11:14, Rom.8:25, al.; before imperat., Mrk.4:23 9:22, Jhn.15:18, 1Co.7:9, al.; before fut. indic., Luk.16:31, Rom.8:11, al.; before pf. or aor., with negation in apodosis, Mat.12:26, Rom.4:14, al.; similarly, before impf., Luk.17:6, Jhn.8:39; before quæst., Mat.6:23, Jhn.5:47 7:23 8:46, 1Pe.2:20;
