* The Bacchiadoe, a very ancient royal family of Corinth, descended from Bacchis, one of the Heraclidoe, which, being expelled from the throne by Cypselus, wandered to Sicily, and founded Syracuse, Ov. M. 5, 407; Plin. 35, 12, 43, § 152 (cf. Aelian, V. H. 1, 19; Pausan. Corinth. p. 120; Strabo, 8, p. 260).
