* An ancient town in Latium, situated not far from the sea-shore, afterwards also called Tarracina, now Terracina, Enn. ap. Fest. p. 19: Tarracina oppidum linguā Volscorum Anxur dictum,Plin. 3, 5, 9, § 59; Hor. S. 1, 5, 26; cf. Mann. Ital. 1, 626 sq. (this town had its name from a fountain in the neighborhood,Serv. ad Verg. A. 7, 799; Vitr. 27, 38.)—Hence
