(ὁμ- Eust. 117.33 and v. infr. ; a form ὄμιχλλα is condemned by Hdn. Philet. p. 445 P.), ἡ, mist, fog (not so thick as νέφος or νεφέλη, Arist. Mete. 346b33, cf. Mu. 394a19), Hom. only in Il. ; εὖτ’ ὄρεος κορυφῇσι Νότος κατέχευεν ὀμίχλην 3.10 ; so Thetis rises from the sea, ἠΰτ’ ὀμίχλη 1.359 ; ὁ. καὶ δρόσος Ar. Nu. 330 ; κονίης ὀμίχλην Il. 13.336 ; ὀμίχλη ἐγένετο X. An. 4.2.7, etc. ; metaph, ὄσσοις ὁμίχλα προσῇξε πλήρης δακρύων A. Pr. 145 (lyr.).
