ήεσσα, ῆεν :
      1 qui a sa fin en soi : ποταμός, HÉS. Th. 242, 959, fleuve qui a sa fin en lui-même (càd. qui ne se jette ni dans un autre fleuve ni dans la mer) en parl. de l’Océan ;
      2 achevé, accompli, parfait : ἔρδειν τεληέσσας ἑκατόμϐας, IL. 1, 315, etc. accomplir des hécatombes de bœufs sans taches ;
      3 qui s’accomplit : τελήεντες οἰωνοί, HH. Merc. 544, oiseaux dont les présages s’accomplissent ; cf. τελέεις.

εσσα, εν, (< τελέω) Ep. Adj. = τέλειος, perfect, complete, of victims, in Il. and Od. always τεληέσσας ἑκατόμβας, i.e. hecatombs of full tale or number, or of full-grown beasts, or of beasts without blemish, Il. 1.315, 2.306, Od. 4.352, 17.50, al. ; τελήεντες οἰωνοί birds of sure augury, as if they brought about what they betokened, opp. μαψιλόγοι, h.Merc. 544 (as perhaps τελειότατος πετεηνῶν, cf. τέλειος I. 1a); in this sense Tyrt. 4.2 has τελέεντ’ ἔπεα sure predictions, from the form τελέεις. Ὠκεανοῖο τελήεντος ποταμοῖο prob. the river in which all others end, or ending in itself, ever-circling, Hes. Th. 242, 959.

εσσα, εν,
1) vollendet, woran Nichts zur Vollständigkeit und Vollkommenheit fehlt ; Hom. vrbdt ἔρδειν oder ῥέζειν τεληἑσσας ἑκατόμβας, wobei nicht sowohl an die volle Zahl von hundert Rindern, als an die makellosen, vollkommen ausgewachsenen Tiere zu denken ist, welche zu solchen Opfern genommen werden mußten ; ποταμὸς τελήεις heißt Hes. Th. 242 der Okeanos, der in sich selbst zurückfließende u. dadurch seinen Kreislauf vollendende Strom.
2) vollendend, erfüllend, τελήεντες οἰωνοί, weissagende Vögel, welche sichere Vorzeichen geben und das Verkündete erfüllen, im Ggstz der μαψιλόγοι, H.h. Merc. 544. So Tyrtaeus bei Plut. Lycurg. 6 ἔπεα τελέεντα, sichere Weissagungen.
