ή, όν, prop., trodden down, στιπτὴ φυλλάς, = στιβάς, S. Ph. 33; metaph, σ. γέροντες tough, sturdy old fellows, Ar. Ach. 180 (perh. with allusion to στιπτοὶ ἄνθρακες, hard charcoal, Thphr. Ign. 37). (In some codd. of S. written στειπτός, as also ἄστειπτος for ἄστιπτος.)

auch στειπτός, eigtl. festgetreten, fest zusammengedrückt, fest, solid ; γέρων, Ar. Ach. 180, nach Einigen von ἄνθρακες στιπτοί, eine besondere Kohlenart, welche die Acharner bereiten, richtiger πεπατημένος, B.A. 8.16, wo es neben πρίνινος steht, ein handfester Kerl, Schol. στερεός, πεπιλημένος, od. ἀπὸ τῶν ἐσθήτων, αἵτινες ὑφανθεῖσαι εἰς πυκνότητα συνάπτονται.
