or σίκλος (the latter form in LXX, J., and S. (v. infr.)), ὁ, = Hebr. shekel, a weight (LXX Ex. 30.23, al.) or coin (ib. Le. 5.15); δραχμὴ μία τὸ ἥμισυ τοῦ σ. ib. Ex. 39.2 (38.26); but ὁ σ.… Ἀττικὰς δέχεται δραχμὰς τέτταρας J. AJ 3.8.2, cf. Hsch. s.v. σίκλος. the Persian σ. was the 1/3000th part of the Baby lonian silver talent, half the silver stater of Asia Minor, and = 7½ Att. ὀβολοί, X. An. 1.5.6; or 8 ὀβολοί, acc. to Phot., quoting S. Fr. 1094 (perh. erroneously, instead of for sense II).
