ἡ, sarissa, a long pike used in the Macedonian phalanx, Thphr. HP 3.12.2, Plb. 2.69.9, 18.29.2, etc. (Freq. written σάρισσα, Ovid. Metam. 12.466, Lucan. 8.298; but σάρισα appears in most of the best codd. of Plb. 2.69, etc., and is recognized by Hdn. Gr. 1.267.)
