υγος, ἡ (ὁ, ἡ, acc. to Gal. 13.639); (< πομφός) : — bubble, Hp. Aph. 7.34, Pl. Ti. 66b, 83d, Thphr. Metaph. 15, etc. ; πομφόλυγες are the constituent parts of ἀφρός, Arist. GA 735b12.
boss of a shield, = ὀμφαλός, Hsch. ; as architectural ornament, IG1². 373.254 (pl.).
ornament for the head worn by women, Ar. Fr. 320.13, IG2². 1524.50.
zinc oxide, Dsc. 5.75, Paul.Aeg. 7.17.

υγος, ἡ, später auch ὁ, Lobeck zu Phryn. 760 (vgl. πομφός), Blase, bes. Wasserblase, wie sie beim Kochen aufsprudeln ; κενεὸς πομφολύγων θόρυβος, Antiphil. 44 (IX.546); vgl. Plat. Tim. 66b, 83d, 85a. – Auch der Schildbuckel, ὀμφαλός, wegen seiner halbrunden, einer Wasserblase ähnlichen Gestalt, Hesych.
Bei Diosc. die weißen Zinkblumen, favilla aeris, welche sich beim Schmelzen der zinkhaltigen Erze an den Wänden des Ofens ansetzen. – Auch ein weiblicher Kopfschmuck, wie ὄγκος, Ar. bei Poll. 7.96, vgl. Moeris.
