Ap. 71, etc. ; — hence Κάρνεια, τά, (Κάρνεα metri gr., Theoc. 5.83) festival held in his honour by Dorians, esp. by the Spartans, Hdt. 7.206, Th. 5.75, SIG 735.25 (Argos, i BC), etc. ; τὰ Κ. νικᾶν Ath. 14.635e; πανηγυρίζειν Plu. 2.873e; — Κάρνειος or Καρνήϊος, ὁ (sc. μήν), name of month in which the festival was held, E. Alc. 449 (lyr.), Th. 5.54, cf. IG 4.1485 (Epid.), GDI 5009 (Crete), etc. ; Κάρνειαι θυσίαι at Argos, IG 4.620.
